Detector for tracking cosmic rays
Cloud chamber
This is a device for detecting cosmic rays that was used by the Institute of Cosmic Ray Research at Osaka City University (now Osaka Metropolitan University) in around 1960. Cosmic rays, a form of high-energy space radiation, generate huge quantities of particles when they collide with the earth’s atmosphere. The cloud chamber observes the traces left by such cosmic rays. In the post-war period, Osaka City University devoted considerable resources to nuclear physics research and carried out cutting-edge work in this field, as evidenced by the cloud chamber.
