Memories of the 20th century, to be opened 5,000 years from 1971.
TIME CAPSULE EXPO'70 1970
The Japan World Exposition Osaka 1970 introduced more than 64 million visitors to a range of exciting new technologies and previously undiscovered cultural offerings. As plan of the participating companies, four capsules were created. One of capsules filled with everyday items of that time were displayed in the MATSUSHITA PAVILLION. After EXPO'70, two capsules, named No.1 and No.2 were buried in front of the Osaka Castle Main Tower. The No.2 capsule was opened and inspected in 2000 before being reburied, a process that will be repeated every 100 years. The No.1 capsule will remain buried until it is finally opened in 5,000 years - the year 6970. The other two capsules have been on display at the Osaka Museum of History and the Panasonic Museum, respectively.
