Galileo’s Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems (The History of Science Collection of the Osaka Science Museum)

This work from legendary Italian scientist Galileo Galilei, famous for his achievements such as the first astronomical observations using a telescope, was first published in 1632. It is styled as a conversation between three people discussing the Copernican and Ptolemaic world systems. The Catholic church in Rome was displeased with the discussion of Copernican theory in the book, seeing it as contrary to church doctrine, and Galileo had a case brought against him by the Inquisition. Nevertheless, the book was widely read and made an enormous contribution to scientific understanding.
