This scale model of the 200-inch telescope at Palomar Observatory in the United States was displayed at Osaka Electric Science Museum from 1943 to 1945. It was an authentic reproduction that visitors could look through. The actual 200-inch telescope, which was under construction at the time, was the largest in the world when finished in 1948. The museum’s model, developed in partnership with Kyoto Imperial University and an amateur astronomy group called the Oriental Astronomical Association, is a valuable historical item that was used to showcase the latest global developments in astronomy to a fascinated public.
