The famed work by Lavoisier, the “father of modern chemistry”
Lavoisier’s Essentials of Chemistry(The History of Science Collection of the Osaka Science Museum)
This book by Antoine Lavoisier, the 18th-century French chemist, was published in 1789. Lavoisier researched the elements, and set forth the law of conservation of mass, which is of great importance in chemistry. It states that, in a closed environment, there will be no change in the total mass of the matter before and after a chemical reaction. In addition, the book systematically presents the knowledge Lavoisier obtained through studies of the relationships between the chemical phenomena of elements and other subjects. Because of his huge contribution to the modernization of chemistry, his book has even been described as triggering a chemical revolution.
