Things learned from whales entering Osaka Bay

Whales found in Osaka Bay: Fin whale, Sperm whale, Humpback whale

The streets of Osaka were once occupied almost entirely by the sea. This is evidenced by the fossils of whales found during construction of subway lines and office buildings. People may be surprised to learn that whales used to swim in Osaka Bay. In fact, this is not a thing of the past. Even in the present, various types of whales enter the bay and sometimes drift to shore after breathing their last. Whales, too, are part of the rich nature of Osaka Bay. To make records and examinations of their visits will presumably lead to the rebirth of an even more nature-rich Osaka Bay.
