One of Japan’s foremost collections built by the Ferns and Mosses forum

Tsutomu Kodama & Tokuichiro Nakajima collection of bryophytes

While serving as a teacher at elementary and junior high schools in Osaka Prefecture and at Otemon Gakuin Senior High School, Tsutomu Kodama devoted himself to research of bryophytes and was one of the key members of the Ferns and Mosses forum, which brought together researchers from outside academia. Tokuichiro Nakajima also diligently pursued research in the field of bryophytes while teaching at Kishiwada High School. Together with Kodama, Ko Seto, who was then a curator at the museum, and others, he invited many researchers to the forum for discussion on a high level. Along with Seto’s collection of ferns, this collection is an important one at the core of the museum.
