Toshiyuki Suzuki’s collection of fish specimens

This is a collection of over 20,000 fish specimens collected by ichthyologist Hisayuki Suzuki, mainly in the Kinki and Okinawa regions. He studied fishery science and subsequently became a high school teacher in Hyogo Prefecture. While performing his teaching duties, he collected a vast number of fish specimens, and has described many new species and reported on the ichthyofauna, mainly of the Gobiidae family. The collection has been used for many studies and exhibitions, and has contributed to the research activities and education of the public. Apart from this one, the collection of fish specimens at the museum includes many precious ones, such as the Pungitius kaibarae, which is extinct.
