A simple yet powerful form
YOSHIHARA Jiro, Work, 1965
Yoshihara Jiro (1905–1972), a native of Osaka, was a painter whose style has changed in different ways over time. After being at the center of Art Informel, movement that swept Japan from the late 1950s, Yoshihara from the late 1960s produced works with simple forms and colors, as exemplified by this work. He was also a leader of the avant-garde artist group Gutai Art Association (Gutai), which lasted from 1954 to 1972.
