Japan’s largest-ever collection of bird nests

Collection of bird nests of Ginjiro Kogaito

For over 60 years, Ginjiro Kogaito collected 516 nests of160 species of birds, mainly in Japan. This collection is the largest of its kind in Japan. Nests are important materials for learning about the breeding and propagation of the birds that made them. In addition, they can provide knowledge about environmental changes in the vicinity. The collection of Kogaito, who was active in the Wild Bird Society of Japan, Osaka Branch, contains many specimens from Osaka Prefecture. It is therefore also of great value for learning about the transition of bird propagation in the prefecture since the 1960s.
