The power of destruction and creation the city has

HATAKEYAMA Naoya, Untitled / Osaka 1998-99, Photographed: 1998–99 / published: 2001 / reprinted: 2016

Osaka Stadium hosted many memorable ball games and was loved by Osaka residents for many years. During the transitional period when Osaka’s most notable baseball stadium was coming to an end, the stadium was used as a housing exhibition center. The present work, released as a two-photo set (shown here is only the photograph of the stadium just before demolition), depicts the special conditions that existed in the city. Photographer Hatakeyama Naoya perhaps found in the creation and destruction of ever-changing Osaka the resilience and transience that cities undergo.
