Hirokazu Okamura’s collection of butterflies and beetles
Hirokazu Okamura, Professor Emeritus of the Osaka Institute of Technology, is an expert in structural engineering, but is also known as a collector of insect specimens. He began collecting insect specimens after the war, for the purpose of interchange with researchers in Europe. The collection consists of about 40,000 specimens of butterflies, moths (Zygaenidae), and beetles (stag beetles, rhinoceros beetles, and ground beetles), and was built over more than 30 years. Containing many rare species, the collection has a high scientific value as well.
