A collection that carries on the memory of the Takarazuka Insect Museum

Specimens transferred from the Takarazuka Insect Museum (including some specimens from the Tamiji Kawamura collection of avian specimens)

Located in the city of Takarazuka, the Takarazuka Insect Museum opened in 1939 and closed in 1975. It contained large specimens from other countries that were the focus of interest among insect lovers in the Kansai region including the manga artist Osamu Tezuka, and precious species from pre-war Kansai. The museum also has 2,067 specimens of birds collected by Tamiji Kawamura, Professor of Kyoto University, who made a great mark on pre-war education in the field of natural science. After the Takarazuka Insect Museum was closed, its collection was transferred to the Osaka Museum of Natural History after the closure of the amusement park Takarazuka Family Land in 2003. Although the ownership has changed hands, the collections continue to be carefully kept and maintained.
