A masterful piece of cursive calligraphy by Mi Fu, one of the four masters of calligraphy of the Northern Song

This work of cursive calligraphy was written sometime between 1097 and 1099 during the Northern Song period in China. The calligrapher, Mi Fu, was one of the four great calligraphers of the Song. Originally a work of nine passages, the work was divided early in the Qing period (1644–1911), with five passages ending up in the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts and two passages ending up in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. The entire work was formerly part of the Southern Song Imperial Collection and is now one of the outstanding masterpieces of the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts.
