A masterpiece that led the postwar design world
HAYAKAWA Yoshio, The 11th Autumn Shusaikai Kimono Show, 1953
Hayakawa Yoshio (1917–2009) was a graphic designer from Osaka who studied design at Osaka Prefectural Kogei High School (now Osaka Prefectural Kogei Senior High School). He first worked at the Osaka branch of Mitsukoshi Department Store and the Cultural Affairs Division of Osaka City Hall, and then worked on this piece after he became an employee of the advertising department of Kintetsu Department Store after the war. Shusaikai in the poster refers to a kimono exhibition and sales event held at Kintetsu Department Store. Hayakawa worked on posters for other kimono exhibitions as well, and all of them feature his characteristic eye-catching soft lines.
