A spectacle of nature drawn in fine detail
Landscape with Pavilions China, Northen Song dynasty/10th-11th centuries Abe Colleciton
Fusajiro Abe (1868–1937), a former president of Toyo Spinning Co., apart from his work had a passion for East Asian art and pursued his passion by collecting ancient Chinese paintings and calligraphy. After his death, his entire collection was donated to the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts in accordance with his will to pass on his cultural assets to future generations.
The present work, a masterpiece of Northern Song (960–1127) painting, shows what a magnificent compilation the Abe Collection is. The majestic natural scenery and astonishing detail with which the people who lived there are depicted invite us on a journey into nature of a thousand years ago.
