A Jin (1115–1234) masterpiece that vividly tells the story of Wang Zhaojun

This scroll depicts the tragedy of Wang Zhaojun (b. ca. 50 BCE), one of the four great beauties of ancient China. The Jilin Provincial Museum in China possesses a similar drawing in its collection. In its fiscal year 2022, the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts completed repairs on this work, including of a tear in the mounting. The Abe Collection has received many requests for loans of this scroll overseas. In response to these requests, the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts made loans to the Shanghai Museum in 1994 and 2010, the Hong Kong Museum of Art in 2012, and the National Palace Museum in Taipei in 2021, on each occasion generating a great response.
