「カーツツアイス・星座絵投影機」は、1937年に電気科学館で導入されたプラネタリウム投影機の付属品です。
「星座絵投影機」は、プラネタリウムの星空に星座の絵を重ね合わせて映し出すための機械です。上部にある大きな円筒形の装置の中には電球が入っています。また装置の外周部分には、星座の絵を描いた板が入った円形のパーツ(星座絵ホルダー)が20個取り付けられています。電球の光は、ホルダー内の星座絵を通り、透過した絵が四角形の装置の中のプリズムやレンズを経てドームに届き、星座の絵が映し出されます。プラネタリウム投影の担当者は、解説しながら、星座絵を切り替えたり、絵を映す位置を調整したり操作します。では、装置の内部や構造を見てみましょう。

The Carl Zeiss Constellation Projector is an accessory to the planetarium projector introduced at the Electric Science Museum in 1937. The constellation projector projected pictures of constellations superimposed on the starry sky in the planetarium. The large cylindrical device at the top contains a light bulb. Attached to the outer periphery of the device are 20 circular cases for constellation images, each containing a panel with the image of a constellation. The light from the light bulb passes through the constellation image in the cases, and the transmitted image passes through the prisms and lenses in the cubical device to the planetarium dome, where the image of the constellation is projected. The planetarium operator switched the constellation images and adjusted the position where the image was projected while providing explanations.
