A brick kiln expressed in vivid colors
SAEKI Yuzo, Brickkiln, 1928
This painting was done by Saeki Yuzo six months before his death in Villiers-sur-Morin, a small village about an hour’s train ride from Paris. With strong black lines and such vivid colors as red, blue, and green, the old brick kiln is elevated to a unique work of art. This was one of the first works by Saeki that art collector Yamamoto Hatsujiro saw, and it became the seed for him to build a large collection. The works that Yamamoto collected are now the core of the Saeki Yuzo Collection at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka.
