『鼓銅図録』は、江戸時代に大阪で銅の精錬を行っていた住友銅吹所が刊行した銅精錬の説明書です。
『鼓銅図録』の前半では、鉱山での銅鉱石採掘から大阪の銅吹所での精錬までの工程が図と文章で紹介されています。銅鉱石の採掘(璞石を採る図)から、鈹を溶かして荒銅を取る(鈹を鎔化して銅を取る図)までは各地の鉱山で行われます。そして荒銅は大阪の銅吹所に運ばれて純度の高い銅に精錬され、最終的にインゴット(棹吹の図)にして完成です。それぞれはどのような作業だったのでしょうか。図に添えられた解説文を読んでみましょう。

Kodo zuroku (Forging Copper Illustrated) is an explanation of the copper refining process published by Sumitomo Copper Blowing Refinery, which refined copper in Osaka during the Edo period (1603–1867). The first half of Kodo zuroku introduces with illustrations and text the various processes of extracting copper ore at the mines to refining the ore at the Osaka copper refinery. Carried out in mines around the country were the processes of mining the copper ore (illustration of extracting the ore) to melting the ore to obtain crude copper (illustration of melting copper ore). The crude copper was then transported to the Osaka copper refinery, where it was refined into high-purity copper and forged into ingots (illustration of melting the metal). The explanatory text accompanying the illustrations explain in detail what each step entailed.
